Beginning Level (24 hours)

In this 6 week course, students learn basic communication vocabulary and grammar in every day conversations. Students learn basic cultural standards which may enhance or hinder understanding. Students will learn how to speak basic Spanish in order to:

  • Greet and offer assistance to customers
  • Ask for general information
  • Give or ask directions
  • Offer general or specific description of their business or service provided
  • Ask for biographical information (name, marital status, birthday, insurance, etc.)
  • Structure grammatically correct sentences by conjugating regular verbs and using adjectives and articles in present tense.
  • Students will be exposed to basic Hispanic cultural aspects of time, customs, family, and religion.

    Intermediate Level (39 hours) - Professional Introductory

    (This course may be taken for college credit (3 hours) or CEUs.)

    Geared towards professionals in the following fields: Nursing, Healthcare, Business, Construction, Banking, Restaurant/Food Service, Fire, and Service Police.

    A cohort of professionals will improve their vocabulary skills and build up confidence so they are not afraid of getting involved in deeper conversations in this 6 week course.

  • Write and read specific simple documents and fill in information.
  • Specific vocabulary geared to specific industry.
  • Use of regular and irregular verbs in present tense and preterit.
  • Specific daily conversation drills.
  • Daily oral skills.
  • Advanced Hispanic cultural aspects of politics, brand loyalties, immigration, myths, customs, religion, and economics will be explored.

    Advance Level

    This third level will allow students to speak with sufficient structural accuracy and vocabulary in order to participate in the most formal and informal conversations on practical, social, and professional topics. Class will be taught mostly in Spanish targeting the specific needs of the profession. It will enhance:

  • Correct use of present, past, and future tense
  • Introduction to perfect tense
  • Discussion and presentation of current issues about your specific job in Spanish.
  • Reading and writing activities to enhance communication in Spanish.
